Last Friday, I experienced the most intense shopping excursion I think I’ve ever participated in (and yes, I’ve shopped Black Friday sales in the middle of the night numerous times.) I skipped sleeping in, I battled rush hour traffic, and stood in ridiculously long lines in 100 degree heat, ended up bruised and sore, for what was arguably the sale of the season, at least in Central Arkansas. It was the 3rd Annual Eleigh’s Tent Sale! I scored a number of items for really great prices. That’s where I picked up this lovely grecian-inspired dress and necklace, which I wore this weekend on my date-night with my husband. Unfortunately, I don’t have any links to this dress because Eleigh’s does not have an online shopping forum yet, but you can sign up for updates here and you can stay in-the-know on their new in-store arrivals by following them on Instagram here.
If you didn’t make it out to Eleigh’s Tent Sale, don’t worry, there are still some great sales going on that you can shop from the comfort of your couch in your pj’s. Here are some of my favorites: the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, J.Crew (Extra 50% off sale styles with code YAYSALE), and Banana Republic (Extra 50% off sale with code BRFIFTY).
I scored this gingham shirt on MAJOR sale at Banana Republic over the weekend (and there are still a couple of sizes left online). I’d been coveting it for a while, and I had pretty much given up hope on it, but the stars aligned and there was one left in my size in the store. I love the oversize shape of it, and as my husband will tell you, I am basically obsessed with anything blue and white (I’m from Kentucky, after all). Plus, despite the fact that it’s got long sleeves, it’s pretty lightweight, which is important considering how hot it’s been lately. If you’re looking for a more fitted style, check out this one from J.Crew.
Eyelet is the perfect material for a super hot summer day or evening. I wore this outfit over the weekend to a dinner date with my husband. I brought the denim jacket just in case it was cold inside the restaurant, but it was so warm I didn’t really need it. A couple of years ago bubble necklaces like the one I have on here had a MAJOR moment and everyone was wearing them. That moment has since past, but I love mine and still wear it from time to time.
This particular dress I bought a couple of years ago at Old Navy, but even so there are tons of similar styles out there now:
I haven’t talked much about my beauty routine before, but if you don’t already own a Clarisonic, you need to get one, and this is the perfect chance to get one without paying full price. I love this floral one, or here’s an even better deal on a cute solid color.
I chuckled to myself when I wrote the title for this post, but in all seriousness I do feel like I have clear eyes and a full heart right now. Lately I have been majorly stressed out about the fact that I start law school next month (eek!) and I have had a long to do list at work and with pre-law school homework. When this summer started I expected to have tons of free time to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Well, that hasn’t happened. After an intense session of venting to my husband, I have finally realized that this summer, and law school or life for that matter, will only be as fun as I make it. Sometimes I can be pretty pessimistic, but I’ve come to understand that happiness is a choice. So, some I’m choosing happiness. I’ve been enjoying the pool and the sunshine, the 100 degree weather, sleeping in on the weekends, movies, sushi, dessert, talking and visiting with my family and friends, blogging, and new clothes from summer sales (see a list of sales in this post here).
Speaking of new clothes, this skirt and navy tank top are both new. This outfit would probably be a bit more on trend if I had some flatforms or wedges, but I don’t own any, and besides, I really like these pumps. I’ve had them for quite some time, and I like the color with the navy, off white, and tan touches throughout the rest of the outfit.
So, what things are you choosing to enjoy this summer?
First of all, I have to admit that on my last post I said I was back in town and blogging and that I was planning to write a post about 4th of July style. Well, that didn’t happen (although I did share a photo of my patriotic red dress on social media). My husband and I went out of town again to visit my in-laws. We had a great time, but I didn’t end up writing any blog posts while I was gone.
Now onto this outfit. . .I bought this dress on sale at the end of the season last year when it was cold outside, and this is the first time I’ve actually worn it. I typically gravitate towards fit-and-flare silhouettes because they’re the most flattering for my body type, but with this dress I was in the mood for something different. I actually really like the way it turned out, and the material is airy and perfect for 100 degree summer days. Even though this particular dress is no longer available, here are some similar styles:
If you are as tall as me (I’m 5’8″), I would like to warn you that the slip underneath the trapeze layer is SHORT. Not so short that I wouldn’t wear it (obviously), but short enough that you will need to be mindful when you stand up or get out of a car (you probably don’t want to have a Britney Spears moment. . .) If you’re a few inches shorter than me, then you probably don’t have anything to worry about.
Moreover, it’s my favorite time of year for two reasons. First, it is ridiculously hot and humid outside, and I LOVE it (much to everyone else’s dismay). I love the sunshine and the heat and even the humidity. Secondly, there are about a million sales happening right now, and here a just a few:
1. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – If you have a Nordstrom credit card, you can have early access to the sale, but if you’re like me, you have to wait 5 more days (July 17) to be able to shop it. From what I can tell from the other bloggers I follow, there are some pretty great deals happening.
2. J.Crew – Extra 40% off sale styles with code SHOPNOW – I have some new skirts coming my way that I’ll be sharing on the blog soon!
